THE CLIMATE INNOVATION GAP
Scaling existing technologies and solutions is not enough to reach the climate targets such as reaching -45% of CO2 emissions by 2030. Thus, sustainable innovation is needed to win the SDG race and close the climate gap.
THE AIM
In order to support a thriving environment and succeed on the market, companies need to achieve their climate targets.
THE CHALLENGE
Current emissions are expected to increase until 2030. Thus, incremental improvements and scaling of existing green solutions will not be enough to reach the targets.
THE SOLUTION
Closing the “climate innovation gap” will require innovation in all aspects: within internal processes, the supply chain and core business model as well as in the form of newly developed solutions internally or with partners.
Emissions globally are expected to rise until 2030. At the same time today already companies take different measures to reduce CO2. Current analysis shows that these are by far not enough to reach the targets. Thus, innovation is needed to close the gap and speed up decarbonization.

Overview of latest references
SDG Workshop
Pioneers developed a multi-hour, interactive presentation that highlighted the science, risks and opportunities from various trends in the energy and climate space. Particular focus was placed on making the topics relevant for the finance sector.
- Many ideas were generated by the 40 participants with regard to how RLB could develop new activities in the space of energy and climate change.
- These will be collated by the internal innovation hub and then presented to senior management

Interactive 2 hours virtual workshop on the theme “SDG WTF? Understanding the Importance of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in a Business Context”
- 30+ ideas created on how to act on the SDG 3, 10, 12 and 13 on a company-wide and brand-specific level
- Insights on social innovation and the SDGs including concrete examples with corporate context
- Proactive application of ideation methods and tools developed by Pioneers to create ideas and define concrete actions

Carbon Footprint
The corporate carbon footprint was analysed and discussed with the wider organisation.
- Internal priorities were set, with corresponding responsibilities allocated.
- Pioneers worked in several strategic workshops with ÖBV to understand the key processes and inputs to their business.
- Together with key individuals in ÖBV, Pioneers conducted a comprehensive data gathering exercise. This resulted in an analysis of the emissions associated with each activity.
