CultTech Lab Russia aims bringing together leading cultural institutions from Russia and Europe with some of the best international programmers, designers and startups to solve real-life challenges and discuss digital transformation in the cultural sector. The organizer of the event is RDI.Digital – an internationally operating business- innovation collective, passionate about driving creative content and cultural heritage through technology.

The event will be composed of 2 major elements for each startup participating:

14th & 15th November


A 48-hours hackathon @ASI Conference Center / Moscow - Prototype a solution based on your startups skills and clearly adding value to the partners respective innovation challenge.

17th November


Startup presentation and showcase of prototypes developed during the hackathon @ SPICF Cultural Forum / Russian Ethnographic Museum

Why should I apply for CultTech Lab Russia?

CultTech Lab Russia will connect you to the leading cultural institutions of Russia as well provide the opportunity to showcase your startup at ICF St. Petersburg in front of potential investors and business partners. For all startups selected, participation at CultTech Lab Russia comes free of charge. The participation at the Hackathon will accept 3-4 members per team and come free of charge for the selected startups. One member of your team will be invited to St-Petersburg to present the solution.

How do I apply?

You can apply via https://pioneers.io/piobay/login. Fill in your application carefully, including your pitch deck and pictures. The more precise information you give, the higher your chances. And the earlier you apply, the better.

How are startups selected?

This is based on pre-defined criteria including product, traction, market potential and team evaluation, as well as the fit for the respective challenge question you are applying for. We will be evaluating all application in collaboration with our key partners and in the startup and investment ecosystem.

When will I know if I’m selected?

We’ll get in touch with you by mid of October 2018.

What happens if I’m selected?

You’ll get invited to Moscow to prototype a solution for the challenge you have been applying for in a 48 hours hackathon. After the hackathon you will get to present your solution on stage of International Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg in front of leading cultural institutions of Russia and and an exclusive international investors audience.

How can I pitch or exhibit?

All selected startups will get to pitch on stage of International Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg. If you wish to get additional exposure through an exhibition space, please simply mark this option in your application form. We will select the exhibiting startups around three weeks before the event. You don’t need to apply separately.

How much does it cost?

For the selected startups, all travel and accommodation will be paid by RDI Digital. The participation at International Cultural Forum will be free of charge for the selected startups.

What if I redeem my ticket but cannot attend after all?

Please inform us by end of October, if this is the case, so we can call up a replacement for another deserving startup. If you don’t let us know by this date, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of €150 excluding VAT.

What will be the prizes?

Join us if you are curious about working next to the prominent Culture Institution and wish to benefit from this learning experience. Showcase your startup in St. Petersburg @ SPICF in front of an international audience of potential investors and clients. There will be also special prizes.

Do I need to have the visa to go to Russia?

Most likely, yes. RDI.Digital will guide you through the process.

How many people from my team will be accepted to participate?

Moscow part (Hackathon) can accept 3-4 members per team. One member of your team will go to St-Petersburg to present the solution.
