Taking „George“
to the next level

We helped Erste Bank develop new features for their online banking system, George, by organising a hackathon. We evaluated the best FinTech startups and invited them to participate in a 48-hour rapid prototyping session.

The Challenge

Vienna-based Erste Bank launched ‘George’, the new digital banking platform for Erste Bank and Sparkassen in Austria, in January 2016. Erste Group’s innovation hub, BeeOne, wanted to develop custom-made solutions to improve every aspect of financial life for Erste customers.

What was the role of Pioneers Discover?

To reach their goal of finding the most innovative features for their new system, BeeOne asked Pioneers Discover to reach out to the startup community. We tapped into our resources and found the 14 FinTech startups that could best help Erste Bank with this project. Then we invited them to a 48-hour rapid prototyping session in the form of a hackathon.

How did Erste Bank benefit?

In just 48 hours the ambitious startups had developed smart, innovative features and presented them on a sandbox version of the George platform. The hackathon winner, predictR, was just a group of keen students at the time. They had no website and weren’t to be found in any startup databases. BeeOne could only have found them through the excellent networks Pioneers Discover offers.
BeeOne and predictR announced a collaboration in May 2016.
