As Vice President & Head of Venture Design at global product strategy and design firm frog, Ethan Imboden oversees the firm’s work at the intersection of design and entrepreneurship. As part of his role, Ethan leads frogVentures™, which invests frog’s capabilities into shared-risk opportunities and ensures that frog’s portfolio companies start smarter, build faster and establish crucial design and strategy capabilities to support their growth. A designer and founder himself, he offers over 20 years of experience in guiding product innovation and entrepreneurial ventures.
Prior to Jimmyjane, Ethan enjoyed his first stint at frog, where he served as a lead designer in the company’s San Francisco studio. During the course of his design career, he has also worked with Fabernovel, Astro Studios, ECCO Design, the Arnell Group and other firms to develop brands and products for a diverse range of clients including Ford, Colgate, Motorola, Herman Miller, the Knight Foundation and Nike. Ethan’s work has appeared in numerous museums and exhibitions, and has been recognized with over twenty ID, IDEA, AIGA, Spark and Good Design awards. A prolific innovator, Imboden is listed as an inventor on over fifty registered patents and applications.
Ethan is an insightful and engaging speaker, and is a primary media resource for topics spanning from design, branding and product development to entrepreneurship, technology and consumer trends. Before entering the world of design, Imboden worked as an engineer on the development of DNA sequencers and other automated lab instrumentation for the Human Genome Project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a master’s degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute.
